Lesson demonstration – computer science at The Asian International School
E-learning is a new teaching & learning method based on information technology and communication. E-learning can help students’ learning become flexible and extensible. With a computer connected to the Internet, students can learn with anyone, anytime and anywhere, and may choose any subjects which interest them. This method is highly interactive and effectively supports the traditional teaching methods.
In the morning of November 13th, 2012, The Asian International School held a district-level lesson demonstration. The topic was "E-learning application to teaching Computer Science". This is one of the school’s activities held regularly during the school year. It helps The Asian International School teachers to improve their teaching skills and to facilitate the exchange of experience with teachers from other schools in District 1.
Attending the demonstration were teachers from many secondary schools in District 1, and all The Asian International School Computer Science teachers. Teacher Ngo Tien Hiep was chosen as the presenter of the demonstration. Carefully prepared, his lesson was very practical in applying E-learning to teaching.

At the beginning of the demonstration, Mr. Hiep introduced the Adobe Presenter, used to compose electronic lesson plans, as it has the ability to integrate multimedia, including movies, photos and sounds. Additionally, he introduced international standards for e-learning such as AICC, SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004.

Next, Mr. Hiep applied E-learning to his class with a topic: “Working with a spreadsheet". He helped his students understand both theory and practice on the spreadsheet quickly. By applying E-learning to his lecture, Mr. Hiep made his class livelier. Most of the students grasped the lesson very well, and at the end of the class, he invited students to participate in group discussions to reinforce the lesson.

After the lesson demonstration, many other teachers contributed their own ideas to further improve teaching quality. They appreciated this innovation in the teaching method.
A representative of Tran Van On Secondary School commented: "The lesson demonstration was interesting and useful. The application of E-learning can help our students learn at home by themselves and prepare their lessons before class. In addition, the E-learning method provides teachers with an effective teaching tool in facilitating lesson plan, organizing class and reinforcing lesson easier through group discussions."

The demonstration lesson was considered a great success. It presented a valuable opportunity for many District 1 middle school teachers to exchange and learn from each other, improving the overall quality of teaching and learning. The Asian International School is committed to the continuous improvement of its educational standards by investing in facilities and equipment to inspire a passion for learning.
