Asian School Partners with Oxford University Press to Implement the Oxford International Curriculum

On August 7, 2024, The Asian International School and Oxford University Press (OUP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to implement the Oxford International Curriculum (OIC) at all campuses of Asian School.

This is not only a significant milestone, but also a clear testament to the quality of international education that Asian School has built and developed over the past 25 years.

Mr. Luke Sweetman, Head of Global Partnerships at Oxford Education and Mr. Stuart McLay, Director of Education at The Asian International School, signed a Memorandum of Understanding to implement the Oxford International Curriculum at Asian School campuses.

The Signing Ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished representatives from Oxford University Press, including Mr. Luke Sweetman, Head of Global Partnerships - Oxford Education, and Ms. Nguyen Minh Hang, Regional Business Development Manager, Southeast Asia, along with other OUP representatives from Vietnam and the Indochina region. The event was attended by the Asian School’s Leadership Team, teaching faculty, support staff, and student representatives.

The ceremony was also honored by the presence and witness of officials from the British Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City: Ms. Alexandra Elizabeth Smith, Consul-General and Director for Trade in Vietnam, and Ms. Ho Thi Kim Phuong, Trade Manager, Education. Distinguished representatives from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training were also present, including Ms. Le Thuy My Chau, Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, Mr. Tong Phuoc Loc - Head of Personnel and Organization Division, Mr. Nguyen Ha Nguyen - Deputy Chief of the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.

The Oxford International Curriculum, developed by Oxford University Press, a member of the prestigious University of Oxford, is based on the robust national curriculum framework of the United Kingdom. With its unique and innovative “joy of learning” approach, the program aims to create a vibrant and enriching academic environment where students are empowered to freely explore and holistically develop themselves into well-rounded global citizens.

Mr. Stuart Mclay, representative of The Asian International School, shared that selecting a curriculum provider is a high-stakes undertaking for any school as it is an important strategic decision. The school is confident that with the aligned values and objectives with OUP, this collaboration will bring exceptional results.

In his remarks at the Signing Ceremony, Mr. Luke Sweetman, Head of Global Partnerships - Oxford Education, emphasized the importance of this partnership: “In working with the Asian School, our goal will be to not just prepare students for even brighter academic futures, but to develop the skills, attitudes and values that will be needed to thrive in a rapidly changing world.”

During the event, Ms. Le Thuy My Chau, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, highly valued the collaboration between Oxford University Press and The Asian International School. “I believe that the implementation of this curriculum will help the students access advanced knowledge and skills, equip them with a solid foundation, and help them become confident global citizens with a strong academic background, allowing them to maximize their potential. The curriculum will also contribute to improving the quality of education in the city, meeting the growing needs of society in training high-quality international-standard workforce for Ho Chi Minh City” said Ms. Chau.

Through the Signing Ceremony to implement the Oxford International Curriculum, Asian School further affirmed its position and the values it brings, helping students confidently step out into the world as global citizens.

Her Excellency Alexandra Elizabeth Smith, the British Consul-General in Ho Chi Minh City and the Director for Trade in Vietnam, expressed her belief that the Oxford International Curriculum will provide Asian School students with valuable opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to navigate and shape their future. She highlighted that this curriculum is designed to cultivate a love of learning, encourage critical thinking, and prepare students for the challenges and possibilities of the 21st century, all within a framework focused on student wellness, collaborative projects, and environmental responsibility.

The Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding to implement the Oxford International Curriculum between the Asian International School and Oxford University Press marks the beginning of a strategic partnership, aimed at introducing the UK-standard international curriculum across all campuses of the Asian International School system.
