According to the lunar calendar, Trung thu or Mid – Autumn falls on 15 August. This is a children's festival, also known as the "moon watching festival". On this occasion, people often hold a feast for children and when the moon rises, children enjoy the feast, dance and watch the full moon. In some places, there are also dragon dance and lion dance for entertaining children. Children are very interested in the Mid - Autumn Festival because they will receive beautiful lanterns and delicious moon cakes from their parents and teachers...

To maintain and promote the tradition of Asian culture, the Asian International School held making lanterns festivals at all campuses of the school on 29.09.2012. Through the festival, The Asian International School wants to bring its students moments of funny with their teachers and friends as well as remind them the noble meaning of Mid-Autumn Festival.

The students were at the school from early morning to prepare all the materials involved. With the original materials such as zinc, bamboo, glazed paper and crayons, the students started drawing up their ideas for their lantern models. They themsselves organized and shared tasks such as clipping bamboo, coloring the lantern, and making the presentation. All of them wanted their model to be the most beautiful and impressive one .

With skillful hands, the students created many unique designs such as star lanterns and U shape lanterns. All of their creations were made of bamboo and glazed paper with highlights in decoration which are suitable for The Asian International School student’s own style .

However, some of the students preferred to design simple lanterns with metal frame and to decorate the lanterns with drawings which show their dreams .

Others preferred to design modern lanterns with shapes such as iPhone, rocket, boat, umbrella, and paper fan. For them, these lanterns were both traditional and modern .

There were a lot of meaningful names given to the lanterns such as: Vietnam House, The Asian International School House, dream house, full house ... Representing the class 7/37, Lam Cao Phuong explained the significance of the lantern of her class: "There are really a lot of meanings when my class named this lantern, but with the name "Vietnam House", we want people from all around the country to understand the uniqueness and attractiveness of the Mid-Autumn Festival better" .

This year, in addition to the lantern -making festival and a drawing contest which is about Trung thu topic, the students are also encouraged to participate in online quizzes about the Mid – Autumn Festival on the school’s website. And there are many attractive awards for the winners.

At the end of the festival, many awards were presented to those who had beautiful paintings, creative lanterns, and answered the questions posted on the website quickly and accurately. All of the lanterns were displayed in the schoolyard so that people could enjoy them together. Although, these were amateur products, they were very unique and impressive.

The festival ended with great success. It is possible to say that the The Asian International School has provided the best conditions to create a useful playground for its students after study hours. And this helped children develop their skills such as creativity, group - work and having sense of unity in a collective environment .

"I'm very happy to join the lantern festival, it helps me relax and promote my creativity. When working with my friends, I see the efforts of my class. Although our lantern is not a good one, I am very happy with it because it is our product. Thanks to the school for giving me the opportunity to have fun with my teachers and friends like this. On behalf of my class, I would like to wish all of the teachers a happy and warm Trung thu season."

"My friends and I make an The Asian International School school shape lantern and we decorate the lantern with the symbol of the The Asian International School because my first impression about the school is its construction. And that is the reason why I decide to make an The Asian International School school shape lantern. I hope all of the teachers consider our The Asian International School lantern as a gift which we would like to present to them in Trung thu season."
