IPS’s training course for English teaching assistants
In order to improve the quality of education and training of the new school year 2012 – 2013, last October 20th 2012, the Asian International School organized “Teaching Assistant Training” program for primary English teachers. The training course was organized to give teachers the opportunity to exchange experiences, improve their teaching methods and overcome difficulties in teaching. The training course was designed with vivid visual lessons by experienced and professional English teachers. Thanks to lessons in this training course, teachers could share their ideas and discuss the most effective teaching methods.
The training scene
Ms. Tran Thi My Linh from Conghoa campus, began the training course with a listening lesson. She organized some teachers to from a class and divided the class into two teams: team A and team B. The members of the two teams listened one by one to English vocabulary, then wrote and chose the appropriate images and put them on the board. With this approach, students could both have fun and learn new words by combining the senses of vision and hearing. Therefore, the children would not be bored and could remember the new words easily.

Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Thuy in Thanglong campus shared her method of studying Grammar in an exciting way. With her teaching experience, she had held a very dynamic and exciting class by using specific, cute and close images in her examples. At the end of the lesson, she helped students review lessons with games that she had prepared to check students’ understanding and to check who was the fastest student to finish the lesson.

Ms. Cherry Rabina in Caothang campus gave a very impressive and vibrant Science lesson. In the format of a game, she divided the vocabulary into certain systems to illustrate living things. Then she pointed out that living things were formed from cells, different tissues and organs in the body. Through this method, she helped students remember the vocabulary in groups and improved their knowledge.

Mr. Steven Arratoon from Thaivanlung campus gave the training course interesting teaching methods by using movement games to help students both have fun and learn English effectively . With the game "Fly trap", each teacher will one by one hold the fly trap in their hands. When they hear Mr. Steven Arratoon pronounce the words, they must quickly use the fly trap to clap the correct words on the board. In addition, the game “Communication” made the hall extremely exciting. Each team would listen to the password from Mr. Steven Arratoon, then one by one transmitted the password to their teammates, the last one in the team must write down the password on the board. The winning team is the one that wrote their answers the fastest and correctly.

Next was the sharing experience of Ms. Hong Diep who teaches Drama in Vanthanh campus. She gave the training program a very interesting and useful story: "The wolf and three Lambs". After using images of wolves, sheep and dogs, Ms. Diep asked some teachers to illustrate for her teaching by playing roles as characters in the story. This is a teaching method that gives a feeling of excitement and passion to students.

At the end of the training course, Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Anh, the manager of Asian International School shared her teaching experience with the teachers.She outlined behaviors that she believes are necessary for teachers and she emphasized that a very important factor in the process of teaching is teachers. Teachers must inspire passion for students to learn and create excitement for students to go to school. This is a most effective teaching method.
